oops ronan wrecked the pig

The more I read this story, the more I like it. It is tragic, sure, but we as the reader can already see the seeds of self-confidence and standing up for herself develop ing in Celie with characters like Sofia and Shug Avery.

So far this is awesome. I think it's a more in-depth and interesting exploration of everything presented in the first book. What's up with Ronan? Who is the gray man? Where's blue's father? Who tf will Blue get with? Good soup

Me when I read a fast-paced YA book instead of lengthly classics and actually read it fast: 😮

Not really feeling great about this so far… The novel literally opens with child rape and incest. I am sincerely hoping that this is one of those novels where it gets better instead of worse.

Steinbeck has a way with immersive, simple prose. The best way I can say this is it feels like watching a long American movie instead of reading a long American novel. I am still engaged however!

Saying this again, Vonnegut’s writing style is truly unlike any I’ve ever read. Nonlinear narratives, war trauma, biting humor, and the questioning of reality follow each other. I can’t say much about the plot so far, but I’m enraptured. So it goes.

I hope this works out better than the last book s’il vous plaît

This is a children’s book, so how much more obvious can the conflict between good and evil get?

HOLY SHIT the section “Prisoner of the Sand” is one of the best memoir/adventure novel prose I’ve read in a while. I had to drink some water

It’s like that one tweet where it’s like “you finish reading the most heart-wrenching and beautiful prose and then you’re suddenly hit with a slur and ideas that make you viscerally cringe”.

I have to read this because theo decker was reading it in the goldfinch. I’m liking it so far!

i illegally downloaded this on my kindle because I’m bored of reading dense literary shit sometimes

I was absolutely blown away by the truth of chapters five and six, being “The Moroccan Birdcage” and “No Fixed Address” respectively, but ch 7 just disappointed me. Sometimes this book feels like a eyes open look into human structure and other times it feels dated and irrelevant to anything at all, vaguely insulting and narrow. I have yet to finish

Can I put a book on hiatus? I want to continue reading East of Eden, but I am stopped on ch. 8 because Wind, Sand and Stars just arrived and it is calling my name instead lol

I am absolutely floored that all of these observations were made BEFORE the inception of the Internet. Especially in “Greenhorns” and “The Emporium of Styles”. 1974!!

This is gonna be a long one!! I do however have faith in mr steinbeck to keep it entertaining
