Start of Part IV. I love this book, but I need to attempt to finish other things to meet my goal!

Ken Follett writes novels about life in the Middle Ages that I always dreamed of finding.

Millennial Haunted House book is everything I dreamed of and more. Grady Hendrix is pretty good at this horror writing thing!

I think I finally found the hook in the plot? My biggest complaint is that the author is describing some weird esoteric stuff, and the language he uses is hard (for me) to follow. What the hell is going on with The Breach??

This book is about humans and sentient dolphins doing space research together, and causing some kind of intergalactic crisis. The dolphins are so great.

This book is so long. It's enjoyable, but I can't believe I'm only halfway through.

Like any good Haruki Murakami story, this book is simultaneously weird and mundane.

Reading Haruki Murakami is an exercise in Japanese language subtlety. It's beautiful and foggy and occasionally frustrating.

Good gracious, the backstory of the main character is a train of misery!

Paused because I want to buy my own copy to take notes in. Very good so far, but I have to keep pausing every few paragraphs to consider what I've just read.

This book feels like it inspired the Fallout series - a lone Wanderer with uncanny/lucky (read: Player Character) skills becoming a plucky hero in the postwar Wasteland. Wilderness instead of nuked cities, though.

I heard the Kevin Costner movie was terrible, but this is quite good so far.

Twist on page 130ish is very very interesting, and is turning out delightfully. This book is quite good.

Went to the library to get a library card. Told myself I wasn't going to check anything else out. Found this book, of course checked it out. Started reading it, got to page 120 in the first 12 hours.
Yeah, it's pretty good.

A bit of a slow start, but I see where it's going. Starts in media res with a junior ship commander being given full rein of his own battleship, and then immediately running into an "alien contact"? Unclear - will have to keep reading!

Started off slow, and I have some critiques on the writing style, but it's starting to pick up. We got some subtle foreshadowing that a real problem lies in wait ahead. The violence of war is realistic and vivid, but not gratuitous. Part 1 complete, now onto Part 2.

I can already tell this book is going to be trouble.

I'm really enjoying this book so far. The "journal-style" prose is a great way to show the gaps in communication and perception (both as a whole, and as a probable reference to the lack of real communication in turn-of-the-century society). None of the characters are particularly inspiring, but their lives are all vastly interesting, especially when side-by-side with the others in their lives.
