Jeremy Maddux is on page 10 of 417 of The Cadillac Man
'A scream caught in his throat, and he fell back against the sink covering his face with his hands when the small gummy mouth opened and emitted a high-pitched squeal. Thomas uncovered his face, a scream now cocked and ready to fire from his throat but the launch was aborted suddenly.'

Killer gummies!

I’ve spent a great deal of time in these basements, not that I was weary of the sun, of the open air: I was simply losing control of the hours and of life, so to speak; I was renouncing the rigid definitions of daily life that allow one to succumb to natural heat or to simply depend on the sun and the elements; I was lying down or standing up, or just leaning against a wall in those dank rooms..."

Jeremy Maddux is on page 34 of 328 of Bismarck and the German Empire
“The Frenchman lacks the sense of duty of the German, who rigidly stands alone in the darkness at his post, in peril of his life. That comes from what is left of religious belief in our people; they know there is somebody who sees when the Lieutenant does not see.”

Oh no, it's one of those mad scientist type horror books where the doctor is so focused on his results that his subjects are simply fodder for same. I hate this kind of body horror other than Human Centipede, that pokes fun at it. The idea that characters can be permanently altered to resemble something less than human (i.e. her becoming a mutant) in order for the doctor to pat himself on the back.

I imagine giving in and finding a way to pass off some great gesture, to hold you and love you how you deserve to be loved, but I need to stay strong. I thought I was at the edge before, but I’m finding more ledge, soon I’ll drop over.

Benny Bahama. I started hanging out outside more, painting in the garage, or walking around the driveway kicking a pinecone for him to chase. He followed me around no matter where I went, right by my side, like an unshaven rifle-toting commander who deeply dislikes me but knows he wouldn’t be all right with himself if something happened to me. Jawing a dry cigar stump. Referring to me as a ‘lily-livered bitch.’ Pictu
