Just like Pretty Horses, this one is much better read than when I had listened to them last year. Will read Cities of the Plain next. The Passenger. Stella Maris. And finally Suttree again. Can't wait for that one but certainly enjoying my second romp through most of McCarthy's work.

Loving the short stories this year. Especially from female authors like Flannery here. A few great ones so far. She really does a good job of mentioning something early on casually and then having it come back with import to round out a theme. Symbolism. Similar to the Faulkner collection, this might as well be a master class in the short story form.

M/C is an interesting one. Rascal. Can't tell if she has redeemable qualities besides her youth and ability to describe the mental and emotional experience of a young person. Still not 100% on this French sort of bohemian style with her dad. Incestuous? Not necessarily so but certainly hinted at in tone. Interested to see how this one ends which I'll probably do tomorrow.

Reading it this time around. Even better. This one gets ranked up there with Suttree and Blood Meridian by fans and I can kind of see why. Listening to most books doesn't seem to work now a days. It has to be great story telling and not much else. If its too deep and complicated my mind will go other places. Out of inspiration or sometimes boredom. Reading is simply better for comprehension with most kinds of books.

Fun one. Dark. Thought I wouldn't like it 50 pages in, seemed too macabre. Now 100 pages in- enjoying the ride. Should be a relatively quick read. The M/C is a real scum bag. Think how i found this one. Looking up books from the killers view. Which I like the concept of but more often miss. Outter Dark by McCarthy- okay. The Collector by John Fowles- bit of a let down. Dexter books kind of ass. I'm sure some others.

Kind of like Henry David Thoreau, Hunter S. Thompson, amd a poet mixed in one. Certain chapters more fun than others but very readable. Surprisingly strong political views but there's a consistency of values you can absolutely respect. More entertaining than I would have assumed. Going to read another nature centered book next, Sands County Almanac. Apparently about conservatism, which this book definitely features.
