Aside from the homophobia and misogyny, this is a great book.

I can't remember when, but I've read this before. Didn't realize that. I'm sure it's well-worth the second read.

Ridiculously good. I'll be continuing with this series for sure.

Alternates between really slow, but good, and really good. The slow parts, I think, are warranted by the premise that this text was written in the 19th century. I've not read Collins, but Dickens can be a bit long on detail, and that is certainly a quality of this book.

Pretty basic stuff so far, with elementary exercises.

Quick read with good tips on plotting. Also a number of typos, but the substance trumps this annoyance.

A slow read; like wonderful food, to be savored. Reads like a stylized painting with bold colors and contrasts. The characters exist for their own sakes; the book is more of a simulacrum than a novel.

There's a reason this book was made into a movie and why it's so critically acclaimed. Best horror book I've read.
