Goodreads recommendations are just bizarre. It's like it only cares about the last 10 books in the genre you read and assumes that anything older than that probably doesn't affect your tastes anymore, so you get recommendations for books that you gave a "meh" 3 stars to, but nothing based on your 5-star all-time favorites...

Although I've been working my way through the series by fits and starts for over a decade, I've never actually reread the first book, until now...
