Damn, the detail in this is amazing but it'll be a while before I tackle another extra-long fantasy book! (Watch my next roll be something that will end up being a Megan Derr read.)

HA! How much do I love that this book starts with a handy-dandy family tree detailing the connections between of all the characters in SK's Escort, Baretti, Finding & Protectors series so that we can figure out who is related to whom. I so needed this considering I've only read 1 Escort book & none of the Baretti books; I've read a couple of the Finding series & ALL of the Protectors...and still find myself confused!

Very odd circumstance for me: I've had to switch from the audio to the ebook for this title. It's fantasy based, with a lot of world-building, religious rites, archeological terms...and I find I need to concentrate more (which I can do with the written word, undistracted).

Yet a different narrator for a JL book!
There's always that Schrodinger moment just before the sound starts where you think it's going to be okay, but that it might also suck.
Not sucking so far...
While I don't mind the changing around so much (who wants to keep hearing Ty & Zane no matter what book we're listening to?) if the narrator is good that won't happen. Like Greg Tremblay.

These books are like my crack...but I have no intention of stopping!

3am here...but I really want to finish this before I fall asleep so that I can get Hainted done first thing in the morning. I don't want a lot of loose ends dangling before Spellapalooza!

ACK! The MM Romance Monthly Challenge bonus category requires us to read a book while drinking a cup of tea (as January is Hot Tea Month).

I FUCKING HATE hot tea.

No, see, I'm a Southerner & we're taught early that there are 2 kinds of tea: Sweet (which is always iced) & Yankee-style (which is every other possible permutation of tea).

You know - like how all soda is Coke, no matter the actual brand.

Well, besides there being more than an hour left in the audio book, I'm thinking that ONE guy was a little too convenient and easy a scapegoat for the case.

Aaaaaaaaand of course there is a conspicuous Bible-thumping hate group. *eyeroll* Yeah, it happens but sometimes it feels trite...whether the murder suspect is a member or it's a red-herring.

One of my favorite tropes, too? (Warming someone close to hypothermia by snuggling skin-to-skin.)

Wow, Pat is kind of a man-slut; friend, co-worker doesn't matter...he's up for it. Kind of refreshing, if a little less "romance-y" than I originally expected.

Okay, yeah, not really a good audio performance. It would be more accurate to say this book was simply "read by" David Tunic. No voice change or inflections. I also can't stand how this narrator pronounces homicide - 'HOMOcide.' Not sure if he's a bigot/dumb or that it's a stylistic choice. (It's not just in reference to the dead gay men; it's how he says it in reference to the police division as well).

Loving this already! MM Romance, scifi, plus a procedural mystery? Damn, Angel...write a more perfect book for me why don't you!

Um, no. That would be hockey player butts. That's why an amazing ass is frequently called a Hockey Butt. It's even in the dictionary!!
Example:

"His little dinky felt so innocent and adorably pure..."

Oh yuck. Now I have this mental image of the guy being under-age.

Satisfying His Palate: Again, relatively hot once the psuedo-blackmail was addressed. Revenge fuck approval does not mean surprise!breath-play, though so...bad writer! (No discussion/safeword)

Also, I'm really getting tired of the annoying euphemisms. "Meat-Stick," "man juice" & "sacred valley" especially. Finally, why do erotica writers insist on using "cumming"? Cum is bad enough; making it a verb is unforgivable.

"I reached one of my hands around and hooked it between our loins..."

OMG, no one should ever use the word "loin" unless it's in reference to wearing a loincloth, cooking a pork loin, or going to the Tenderloin district for some ass. Ugh.
