This is kinda cool. I definitely didn't expect the book to go here.

Not a whole lot is happening here. Really, nothing happened since page one.

Still a little cliched, but the girl protagonist (I can't remember the Roman names) is just such a good character.

Every time Sam uses the phrase 'my wife', I get sad inside.

Yeah, this just all feels like aftermath from the institution. There's no plot reason to have a sequel.

There are a few cliches here, I guess. Most notably, it's definitely cliched for the protagonist to resist the patriarchy, and for her best friend to see less harm in it. But this is really well-written, and the characters are pretty interesting, so maybe it'll hold out.

Eva is still an interesting character, but this is starting to feel really unnecessary as a sequel.

This is certainly a breath of fresh air, compared to what I've been reading recently. We'll see if it's as good as it is different.

These recaps are a little excessive - plus, there's a lot of worldbuilding that we probably should've gotten the first time around.

And suddenly, I'm reading a very different novel. The transition is truly jarring.

There isn't the thematic ambiguity here that a lot of Shakespeare plays have.

So there are people that actually go out into the streets and shout "Bring out your dead!" during plagues. According to Anderson. I'm not sure if I believe her.

Sam's romance with Bacon is so adorable...

This is kinda boring. I'm not sure why - it's well written, and Mattie's an interesting character. It should be entertaining. Maybe it's that Mattie doesn't interact with anyone her own age, so there's nothing for her personality to bounce off of.

And then all the famous quotes about getting the blood off your hands.

I have reached The Scene, or at least, I'm pretty sure I have. I truly didn't see that coming. Nice job, Chabon.

Okay, now I see why Joe is the sexy one.

Just a prediction: this will be dark. (Actually, I've seen the play before, so I know it's gonna be dark, but that's what my prediction would be if I'd never seen it.)

This is a tad bit predictable, although I guess that's to be expected from MG. It's at least well-written.

This is pretty well-written, I suppose. Although it's bothering me that I have no idea how old Mattie is.

So apparently, Anderson actually primarily writes MG. She's such a fluent YA writer that I find it difficult to imagine, but we'll see.

This is a pretty interesting situation, I suppose, although I'm still having trouble getting invested.

I'm finding that I don't like most anime and manga. But I have a good feeling about this. Something dark, filled with action, and weird... this is what I've been looking for ever since I started reading manga.

This isn't a bad book, and I see why it has such a following. it's not Chabon's fault it doesn't appeal to me.

I'm starting to find that this series is more fun if I just don't try to follow the plot

I didn't enjoy the first volume, but hopefully, this will be better. I can't say I'm too excited, though.
