I think this might read a little too young and a little too repetitive for me.
That's not to say it's a bad book, just that I think I might be the wrong reader and it's hard for me to work up the motivation to read more of it.

"There was much talk about language. Sometimes, it seemed like the authors were treating language like it was its own creature. A creature that fed, grew, died, and was reborn again. Language was not a tool to them, more like an occasionally useful parasite."
Book talking about itself is strange, but maybe deemed necessary to serve the characters or confused readers?

I quite dislike the voice actor for Tal, Ffion's voice actress's voice for Tal, and all of the very stupid love triangle.

Not sure how I'm feeling other than that there are definitely strong YA vibes. Main, repeated points:
There's a prince after his father's love, the hedgewitch is against the unethical/Capitalist practices of the witches from her home, and the other prince has dreams/visions of her and he loves her though they've never met and she makes him want to be a better man.

“Oh.” She seemed to think about that. “To write a story about someone is to create someone.”
“Oh?”
“What else can we be but stories about ourselves that we tell ourselves?”

This is much more philosophical in nature than it is plot-driven or fast-paced. There was a moment in Ellen's chapter that picked up a little bit, but I find it difficult, as the type of reader I am, to spend too much time at once in this book.

The Catholic guilt is strong with this one.

It pains me to admit that I'm finding this kind of boring and stereotypical, European, medieval white mantasy. Every time I expect it to zig it doesn't even zag. Just as straightfoward and expected as ever.
Every subversion or opportunity for humor is outright ignored.
