A Josh Ritter reference and it’s perfect!

This book is annoying. Map at front of book has an error. Intro says the book isn’t history, but a story. Interesting take and then I noticed there isn’t a single foot- or endnote.

Intrigued by a connected world of sci-fi fairy tale retellings. B didn’t like this one. We’ll see what happens.

The show blew me away. Came across a free copy of the book.

Never read it and Tina can be a bit polarizing. Thought I’d give it a shot.

When will this book be over? So close to DNF. Four hundred plus pages of attempting to rework the plot trajectory from the previous book, but also not really doing anything.

Oof. This book gets so bogged down in Marxist-Leninist-Maoist rhetoric. It also jumps all over the timeline. Not sure if it’s the translation or the original text to blame for some of this.

What?! They just made a direct reference to “We have always lived in the castle!”

This was the dumbest part of the show. The completionist in me is looking to be angry I guess.

Interesting premise, but it’s a slow burn, very slow burn.

Kind of a slog getting through this one. I did let it roll off the kindle by accident, but I really haven’t felt a rush to get back to it. I may like the show better 😬

WHOA. This is a dark DARK retelling/sequel to “The Little Mermaid,” and opens incredibly well.

I feel like this book is being forever shoved in my face, so here we go.

Hm Victor is a coward. The Monster is an incel, but one that it isn’t his fault?

Listening to the Audible audiobook. Dan Stevens’ Victor is good, but the Monster sounds like he could break down into wailing sobs at any moment.

I usually don’t let poor character decisions get to me so much, but MC secret service agent has been a bonehead and it seems to be only in service of the plot. May have to leave ir as DNF. We’ll see what happens.

Oof. Surprisingly cinematic. Nick Offerman as Prof Challenger would be awesome.

It is a historic novel so of course there is some horrific casual racism.

Been so “meh,” that I’m thinking by about DNF.

Apologies for the “want to read” spam; I spent some time in a bookstore today.

I have about 45 pages to go (I’m not reading the notes and Reading Guide) and I’m struggling to push through. The author actually quotes someone with my biggest criticism, “you can’t just tell people ‘night is beautiful,’ and expect them to do anything.” Most of the author’s discourse has been on the beauty of night as a reason to save it.

Throwing big First World Problems vibes after I noticed the discussion is always around North America and Western Europe. What is light pollution like in Majority World countries?

A lot of Mediocre White Male vibes. Not as deep as they think and doesn’t really get beyond his own perspective.

Gotta hand off to the the book to the digital.

Oof. Not even a minute into the audiobook and I may have to jettison this one. Wil Wheaton is overacting the hell out of this thing. And something weirds me out about nerd-culture celebrities like Wil Wheaton and Felicia Day.
