MC 200 year old man. He tells the 20yo female she is too young for space exploration, but she’s apparently not too young for him to list after. Gross.

One of the major alien species has “non-sentient females.” Doesn’t bode well for a book written by a white man in the 1970’s.

I think I’m going to have to temporarily set this aside. Maybe mark as DNF? Too many oyher books to read before they go back to the library. Just isn’t grabbing me. Kinda started out like very pulpy noir, but an Asian fantasy setting, but isn't doing it.

Mark’s chapters feel like the longest math word problem you’ve ever seen. People on Earth working together is heartbreakingly beautiful.

I never thought I would read this, published only 15 years after the first book.

Beautiful book! I would almost feel comfortable giving it five stars before I was a quarter of the way through it. Amazing allegory that brings tears to my eyes times.

Hm feels like pirates are becoming a trope used to get people from one place to another, but also why have pirates snuck into so many recent reads?

The most nuanced take on Lake Powell I’ve ever seen. He also writes beautifully about Childhood.

I don’t think I’ve ever been so tempted to skip ahead in a book as I am during this guy’s geology of the Grand Canyon discussion. That’s bad.

At least only one of the multiple plotlines is a Hunger Games Hogwarts.

Really starting to drag. Each chapter goes over pretty much the same info, but from a slightly different perspective.

Not really feeling this anthology. I’ve been spoiled by all the great counter-Lovecraft from the last few years, and this collection just feels flat so far, playing with the surface level of the mythos.

Makes me feel like a sellout, but the discussions on paleoecology and paleoclimate are more interesting than the details of individual dinos.
