As some of you wonderful goodreads friends have noticed (I missed you all very much!) I've been a bit absent for a while. Without getting into the boring details, let me just say that the idea of catching up with everyone genuinely excites me and I hope everyone has had a fantastic second-half of the year. I don't know what's more disturbing: that Ian McDonald can write about a horrific and gruesome event in such a beautiful and poetic way, or that I thought it was so lovely I want to re-read the passage.

This is actually a pretty book. I can imagine hanging a print of this book's cover on my wall.

I've been trying to decide what my first book of the new year should be; hours later, I still have no ready-to-read book to show for it.

I want to launch the new year with some genuine literary awesomeness.

Hopefully I should be able to finish this before the year is up, though it looks like I will still fall a book short of my yearly goal. :(

Being on summer break means I'm supposed to have MORE free time for leisure activities and reading, not less. Sheesh, get it right, life!

Straightforward and easy enough that I can read it while exhausted after a long day, but sophisticated and highbrow enough to not be considered a guilty pleasure. Just what I need right now.
