I realize that I haven't really been able to predict this book the whole time I've been reading it. I couldn't have seen where we've arrived, and I still don't know where it's going to go.

I'm starting to wonder when my morbid fascination with death will finally be overcome by the boredom of reading a seemingly endless supply of epitaphs.

I think the moment we started following Arthur Wellesley around, I truly started falling for this book.

At what point does a footnote outgrow the category of footnote?

Just got back from a library society warehouse sale. That's right a whole freakin warehouse of books. for sale! For me! I'm basically literally out of breath, though that could be from carrying so many books at a time. I've decided all warehouses should be full of books. So beautiful.

... I never expected just how hilarious this book was going to be. Ridiculously fun!

It is a maxim of mine that men (being superior creatures) are bound to improve women.... When a woman wants me to do anything,...I always insist on knowing why. The oftener you make them rummage their own minds for a reason, the more manageable you will find them in all the relations of life. It isn't their fault (poor wretches!) that they act first, and think afterwards; it's the fault of the fools who humour them.

So... I leave civilization for a couple days to go commune with nature, and I come back to my favorite website being sold to Amazon?
