So I admit to getting this free and holding my nose as I started reading.

I have read a lot of this author's writing. He is inconsistent for me as some of his stuff I love, but others I find meh. Not sure which way this new series is going to go - yet.

A really great start to a new fantasy series. Interesting take on the "chosen one" trope.

I do not read gay romances very often, but occasionally I do get one that sounds intriguing. Character development is a bit light, but as this is in the middle of the series, the characters may be better developed in earlier books.

I started reading this series back in high school and later completed it when I was in the very early days of my military career.

I read this series back in high school, and I forgot how good it is.
