Two Envelopes And A Phone is 51% done with A Dark Matter (The Skelfs, #1)
Well, okay - I've had to get used to the "men suck" messaging that is practically every page. I'm not disputing it - heck, most mornings I wake up and hear about the world, I feel the same way - but, yeah, I'm going to be honest to any guy contemplating this book: it's a cool Crime novel, but men as a gender get trashed every page. I just think it doesn't need to be so constant; I get it, message received.

Very happy with this. Not ready to commit to more books in the series, but that’s more because I’m happy as a jumparound reader who can take a series or leave it alone. If this book stays strong, I would likely revisit the Skelfs occasionally.

It's pretty cool, for an obscure vampire novella from 1879. Certainly not slow and inactive - we have a strong plot, and a definite ahead-of-its-time feel, as mentioned in the Intro. Should wrap this one up later today.

Starting with an invasion, violence in the street, and an oath of revenge. I like it.

I thought I felt like another Lockwood & Co. book next…but, not quite. Anyway, the only other Doug Johnstone book I’ve read is Smokeheads, and that’s going back a bit. It was okay, but I hope this is better. I have a good feeling…

The first short novel included in this double-book was nearly perfect. On to ‘Hush Money’, with high expectations.

This looks lively. Max Allan Collins sits pretty well with me so far, based on Road to Perdition and a couple of Quarry books.

I’ve read this before. A while ago, I was about to do a re-read, and then bailed. But I don’t like having this in my To Read pile, so it’s either re-read for sure, or put it back where it belongs, as Read. But of course I want to re-read it! I’ll do it now, and then go to Doctor Frigo.

The only reader at work who I have rapport with suggested getting into this series. She also loves the TV show. Things sounded interesting enough - ghosts and so forth - so I have got hold of the first three books. Of course, Courtney’s favourite of the books is…number 4.

This seems like another winner. I know, years ago, I hit a bad patch by this author - but the latest re-issues have been more entertaining. If the rumoured TV show ever gets past development limbo, I hope they stick with the period the novels depict, and I hope they film from the best of the source material.
