Very excited - don’t know a thing about the plot of this one.

Some surprises! Gonna try and finish this tonight.

At this point, I think David should just drive all the way home. But since there are 200 pages left, that’s exactly what’s not going to happen. Enjoying this. It’s creepy.

So, yah - I'm feeling like this Spring into Summer is going to include a lot of Horror, Noir and Hardboiled, and some stuff. But we'll see. Eventually I'll be starving for an SF novel. But not lately. Meanwhile, I like this Janz book already.

Charlesgate Confidential was superb…and so is this.

It’s not perfect…but I do love reading it. I guess it’s going to leave some things hanging.

I love going to lesser known and severely neglected books once they show up on “Best of” lists, but I decided to read this famous Horror novel ahead of the bunch of obscure Horror novels that I ordered recently. It’s like finally getting to Dune, or Revelation Space. Anyway, I’m glad I let the “hidden gems” wait a little longer - this is a gripping read and I can see why it landed big in the 80s.

Still sad that Sleuth of Baker Street Book Store is closing after over 40 years. I was over there making sure to buy up whatever I've let sit for ages, and spotted this on a chair - I knew it was in my TBR pile, and asked if it was for sale. Dude said "Oh, it's yours"; it was only as he rang me out that he said, "that's an ARC, by the way, take it for free". I was wondering why my bill was lower than I thought.

I’m excited. I had no interest in this book for years, but suddenly I’ve had a peek at a synopsis - a spy angle, with vampires!? - because it’s on a list of recommended Horror books, and so…the time has come!

I'm quite into it now - haunting, strange, and fabulous. Thinking of doing quite a bit of hardboiled/noir this Spring-Summer - we'll see. All those old Golden Age whodunits also beckon. I always break my plans anyway with "oh, just read what you feel like next - no plan!". Who knows.

A little bit like Madball, but I think this plot will go in a different direction. Cool to have a Tarot card introduce each chapter.

I have not seen any movie versions, but I feel like a carnival story, especially something off-kilter. Fredric Brown has set the bar pretty high for carny noir, or carny weird Crime, but I'm sure this will be memorable.
