Two Envelopes And A Phone > Recent Status Updates

Emerging as my second favourite series, of this type of Fantasy, after LOTR (which is of course perfect) - and no, I don’t think he’s going to screw it up in the final stretch.

I have loved this series, and will miss the land and characters, but it was the perfect time to wrap it up.

I’m low on short story anthologies, except for some Horror options, so while I think about what I want to go after in that vein in the New Year, I’m knocking off some collections (dipping in between novels). This one is competing very well with the John Dickson Carr short story book I finished not long ago. Of note here is how clever the stories are, versus how few pages are on offer per tale.

I will finish it tomorrow - probably in the morning, but certainly by end of day. The plot has evolved so far from where it started, but it all makes sense, and has been very exciting.

I picked a good one to carry me through the next few days. It’s pure gripping.

A crackerjack spy novel. Loving it.

One of my strangest, most intense reading experiences. I'm still forced to only go at it now and then.

One day I'll make sure I have a copy of A Toast to Tomorrow - follow-up to the fabulous book, A Drink to Yesterday - by Coles; but for now, this.

I introduced myself to this author via Walking With Ghosts, and now I’m on to this - and once again I’m very happy.

Just what I wanted, a desert Fantasy romp, no baggage attached. I’ve recently “re-discovered” this early favourite author of mine, and am managing to pick his remaining good stuff, whereas everyone on BookTube picks Trial of Terra and decides he sucks. Anyway, this one works for me.

I like it! It’s more Christmas-y than my other try at a Christmas whodunit, The Night of Fear (which I did enjoy). This reminds me a little of Murder After Christmas, but would have to work hard to match it.

I will continue to deal with this wonderful but challenging work by taking little breaks.

One more Christmas whodunit should keep me happy.

Evil is on the rampage, it seems. When will it stop?

Oh. We’re disembarking - not spending the whole book on the ocean liner. Well, that’s okay; hello, London! Anyway, at least two terrible things happened while we were out to sea, that need clearing up by Hildegard Withers from her new base of operations, the Alexandria. This has been a treat, so far.

This will be my second Stuart Palmer Mystery of the year. Whodunits set on ocean liners are usually my thing; I don’t think anything will ever top The False Inspector Dew, in that sub-genre - but I always enjoy try-outs!
