I am overdue to read this 1997, third novel from Ontario's Susanna Kearsley. I feel about her the way I do about Australia's Kate Morton. The plots and atmospheres are enthralling but these ladies need to keep a lid on excessive words and descriptions. I am thankful to see that Susanna is sticking to action and necessary information this time.

I laughed my "A" off from pages 90 to 91; so hard, that I was chortling to the excess of making no sound. Two of my cats stared in unison. One meowed and walked-up to me to ensure I am okay. I reassured Spirit, while Marigold still stared, that these are happy sounds and that as he knows, Momma is merely bonkers with her humour. I will reread these pages, describing meagre restaurant portions, before continuing.

I agree, this novel comprises an abhorrent subject. Abuse is horror to anyone: sexual assault, emprisonment, or torture but it is worse that these fictional victims were children. They are dependents who are supposed to trust adults. It is despairing if they cannot. I understand why some graded this book low and others high. Everyone's compassion is strong and I am devouring the pages to see the mystery solved.

This does not have the enchanted house atmosphere that made "The House With A Clock In Its Walls" exciting. It is about bullying, in 1948 where apparently your guardian doesn't warn teachers or parents to control the mean kid. Louis just has to fearfully soldier on to school, until he finds a magic amulet from his Great-Grandpa. This resembles Johnny Dixon's story but might get good. I waited 40 years to read it!

I see why some don't favour Joanne Kilbourne like other literary protagonists. I love having the Sakatchewan cities in modern mysteries more than anything. For once my prairie province neighbour is portrayed in artistic and political city life, rather than as farmers. The problem is, Joanne is not quirky but tired and serious. Her private life is dominant but I am not 51 with kids. However this mystery is great.

A surprise prairie-Canadian discovery. I have never been to Moosejaw and its famous tunnels and spa but Saskatchewan is only one province to my west.

We honoured and remembered our white cat son, Love, yesterday. We regret that this year, five years is longer than he lived. I have a childhood cat who died 16 years ago, who is still not away as long as she lived. That is sad. But our love is just as strong and we know, so is Lovey's love for us. To you, our Love! His is the spectacular white cat portrait showing on my profile now, of course.

It is a pleasure to return to Howard Engel's humorous writing and relatable people, in small town Ontario, 1992.

I am leaving a note that our dear white cat, Love, passed away 5 years ago. I dreaded this day because too quickly, on this year, he has been gone longer than he was physically here. That isn't right. Early, sudden death is a part that never feels okay. However, our Lovey is still loved and loving us!

It is my pleasure to return to Ste. Catherine, Ontario's great Howard Engel! Now the series has reached 1993 but old school vibes continue to resonate, which I enjoy. Loveable, Jewish-Canadian private investigator, Benny Cooperman was my age twenty years ago and of course, creator Howard Engal is in his eighties. Therefore an old world connection will be retained throughout the modernity of these unique mysteries.

One of the most unique novels I have read. Given our powerful creativity here in Manitoba, it is unsurprising that the other supremely original and memorable novel I can say this about, is another one about reincarnation from a Brandon author, Alfred Silver. My review was never visited in 4 years and the novel is just as little-known. ;) Let me help out what that! https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
