So, the first 30 pages or so I thought I couldn’t get into, and thus through, this book. But the more I read the more I realize it’s not meant to be enjoyed, but appreciated.

It’s giving “Where the Crawdads Sing” and “Angela’s Ashes” vibes.

It’s so hyper-frustrating that they both keep making gut decisions and, since they don’t know what the future holds, they have no clue what the repercussions will be. But the reader is like 😳.

For those with inquiring minds: This, so far, is just another WWII historical fiction with a romance subplot. It’s also very long and my CD player won’t let me listen at x1.25 or x1.5 speed.

Leave it to middle schoolers to recommend a book that’ll force you to process childhood trauma. 🥲
