I'm not sure about this book yet. The characters and their relationship were just starting to grow on me, and then, hm. Definitely a very different sort of book than I was expecting.

"Ghost Champagne" is a great, emotional story about a woman who is tormented by the constant presence of her own ghost, back from the future to haunt her.

I've been hearing lots of good things about this book, and it's interesting so far, but be warned that it's darker than the reviews might suggest, with the main character's backstory already involving rape and family suicide.

Okay, now we're getting somewhere!

I loved "The Time Travel Club"! Great premise, cool developments, and such wonderful characters!

The second section is an interesting addition to the first, but it's not yet clear what this is all leading to.

Still in the first section and finding the characters interesting. No idea what to expect next.

"Rat Catcher's Yellows" is such an emotional story about a loved one with dementia and video gaming.

I know just enough about this book to be aware that there's going to be more to it than what's currently happening, which is that a guy in the early 1900s (I think) is getting really into playing the stock market.

The first story in the collection is "As Good As New", which I listened to when LeVar Burton read it on his podcast. Fun to read again!

Still enjoying this quick read.

Very entertaining!

This has been interesting but a little too slow for me. However, there have just been some developments, so curious how the rest will shake out.

I'm drifting pleasantly along on the strangeness of this novel.

"Instead of sleeping, you pace up and down your mind, and somewhere in your wandering, you find an empty room you hadn't noticed. The door is jammed, but still you can hear them, in the silence, your mother, the girls, whispering, and she's telling them, you, to listen, keep still, because she knows the secret to remembering."

Interesting enough mystery in a fun setting. Kowal has some writing habits that I find repetitive, so I feel this book could have been streamlined somewhat.

The investigation of the mystery is moving right along, and Gimlet the adorable dog is always a help in getting people to start talking!

Murder mystery on an intergalactic space cruise. This should be a fun time!

"Best friendship wasn't a vast expanse of time anymore; it was being there when it mattered." Really enjoying the interpersonal dynamics of this book!

"Some days a particular quality of light would make her catch her breath and think, April, or July, or October, or whatever month it was in which the light looked as it did in no other month, no other place in the world. Right now, the afternoon light was falling softly. She'd often read about such light in books while growing up but hadn't really understood what it meant until she came to England."

"Childhood friendship really was the most mysterious of all relationships... it was built around rules that didn't extend to any other pairing in life. You weren't tied by blood, or profession, or an enmeshed domesticity, or even-as was the case with friendships made in adulthood-much by way of common interests."

"November drew to a close. On one hand the imminence of Benazir's inauguration made everything extraordinary, on the other hand nothing about being fourteen was made any easier because of it." This novel is doing a great job capturing both a time in life and a time in history.

"...the certainty that whatever happened in the world you would always have this one person, this North Star, this rock, this alter ego who knew your every flaw down to your atoms and who still, despite it all, chose to stand with you and by you through everything that the world had yet to throw at you..." I'm already loving this friendship and anxious about what will really happen in the years to come!

Good to get another perspective filling in some backstory.

"Just dropping by... to see how you were holding up. What was it they were supposed to be holding up, Bird wondered, though eventually he realized it was themselves. It did feel that way in those early days, on the mornings when he’d learned to eat his cereal dry, because the milk in the fridge always seemed to have curdled: like they were puppets and the strings holding them up had gone slack."

As expected, the dystopian future of this story is too chillingly close to reality!

No idea where this novel is going with what it's doing, but I'm enjoying the journey.

Immediately enthralled!

"The art world in England is an absolute magnet for the second sons of threadbare lords, or women named Annabelle Something-hyphen-Something who dress in black leggings and burnt orange cashmeres and smell faintly of wet Labrador." Brooks certainly does bring scenes to life with this sort of (often funny) observational detail.

Interesting stories developed around each stage of the book's history!
