<.. I am irrationally mad at how they are treating her and doing a disservice to neurodivergence because of the authors ignorance or insolence who knows. The way Britt calls herself weird constantly is insulting honestly. Base turning into a jerk, even if he had a bad day, is a red flag. This is such an unhealthy dynamic for Britt, Base and her family. The group with the healthiest relationships is the band members.

I wanted to give this another shot and when I reached the part when Base (who is supposed to love and understand Britt the most) basically doesn’t let her process or proceed in the way she knows how. I hate how her family gives her these rules to live by and how Base assumes she can just transfer her process to him. It shows that no one in this book knows her or how to help her (by sending her to a professional…>

<… I want to like this book for its interesting setup, but with the Sterling cameos that mean nothing to me, and the way Britt is being misrepresented and Base being so inconsistent and coming across as flakey, I can’t enjoy it at all. Plus I noticed a few typos. A shame. DNF — 1.5

<… Honestly I like Base but his behaviour is just not consistent or right for Britt. And why does he and his friends (and everyone really) find her honesty so charming and funny. She should have offended someone at least ONCE in this whole book and hasn’t. It makes me feel like the author is chalking up someone’s real struggles to interpret signals as a cute quirk, and that feels wrong and misrepresenting…>

They hooked up in the weirdest rushiest way possible and it was so confusing and… wrong? After Britt got mad at him for not respecting her wishes and confusing her with mixed signals he just GIVES IN and doesn’t, you know, talk to her like he at this point surely knows she needs. He repeatedly helps her navigate her literally sense of understanding and yet doesn’t explain to her the relationship they’re in..>

On paper, this story should really appeal to me. A neurodivergent FL with a bad boy with a heart of gold ML, but the stilted writing - meant to reflect her thought process, I suppose - is very distracting. I also struggle to understand the ML even though we get chapters from his point of view. He likes her but doesn’t want to string her along… except he lives shirtless in her house.
