Promise of Blood started so strongly from the first few sentences, pulled you into an original world so quickly, and then never let down until pretty much the end that I had very high expectations for this trilogy set in the same world. I'm struggling more here. It's slower and more stereotyped as fantasy stories go. It's also possible I'm just not in the mood for war stories right now. Not giving up on it though!

Oh please please please can we see Taniel in this book. Don’t get me wrong I’m loving it already but Fatrasta...come on Taniel has to end up here. I’m so eager for this book...more of McClellans powder mage world. Amazing characters. Incredible plots. Intrigue. Espionage. Just brilliance!!

The prologue was super intriguing. It also made me wonder if there's such a thing as archeological fantasy?? If not then there definately should be.

Given that it is an action/war novel, most of the romantic scenes happen in the mind of the mains. Lol.

The more I read into it, the more I feel I should go back and read the first three again.....to remind myself all the background... but I also cannot stop reading this one.... such a dilemma.... may I split into two and read them both? Lol.

Los libros de McClellan tienen el mismo sabor que los de Sanderson, pero al mismo tiempo tienen un tono particular y único. Puedes ver que la construcción de personajes y el desarrollo de trama son idénticos a los de Sanderson, pero cómo McClellan también hace las cosas en una forma diferente a la de su maestro. Es como la Coca Cola y la Pepsi.

Once again, Brian McClellan Nails it! He just keeps pumping out the winners! I truly love his fantasy mind!

So far, too meta. All the terminology utilized is too close to our own, constantly interfering with immersion and any sense of a suspension of disbelief.

Very good start! Not gonna leave a 4 year gap between books this time with McClellan.

Still great as the author brought back earlier characters, gave new roles.
Maybe a little SPOILER:
We are after 11 years, but the author pick up the story line almost at the point where we finished in the end of the first trilogy. I mean he feedback and continue but we are at the present after 11 years. The writer do it so well. I love it!
