Slow day so I've been able to read a lot. It's pretty okay so far and the story is mildly interesting. I want to like this character so much more though. I want to feel deeply invested in her life and her experiences, but she doesn't have much of a personality. I do like reading a story about a trans girl (by a trans woman) that isn't a horrible tragedy. That's really important for a YA audience.

Something I really need to work on is reading books with more diversity. Why would I want to read more books about an old, old wooden ship? A lot of the diversity nowadays is in the more welcoming and broad world of YA, where I don't venture much because of cheesy romances and bad writing. So here goes!

First chapter made me cry. Sold!

I wished I could walk up into the sky and live on some distant planet, far away from the things I was afraid of.

Really enjoying this one. The fact that it has me asking so many questions in between reading has to be a sign of a great book. I just realized that the author of this book is also transgender and it made me so much more excited about it. It feels like I'm more likely to get a decent representation of a genuine experience.

Discovered this one via reviews for Brie Spangler's Beast (which I liked). And Meredith is a Chattanooga author! How did I miss this?! On hold for a bit while I try to read Jennifer Niven's new one before my library copy is due, but I'll be back!

It's taking me a while to finish this. It's my fault not the book. It's really good, but i've been so busy. I recently finally got a job so yeah i haven't been able to reading this.
