Status Updates From If I Was Your Girl

Almost cried just reading the dedication, welled up at the first chapter. Happy tears a few chapters later when the main character is introduced for the first time as Amanda. This book is breaking me.

This is a trans own voices book, and I didn't know that going into it. The story is told so beautifully and naturally, and it really places you inside Amanda's head. Own voices stories like these are SO important, and we need more of them! It further helped me understand how privileged I am to be cisgender, and reminded me to always be an ally.

I'm actually really enjoying this so far, aside from my huge pet peeve of people constantly using "said" whenever someone says something, it's a nice story

The issue with grant's jobs was solved quickly. Maybe a bit too quickly. I think this novel is going too fast

Clunky in some parts but still a great story.

Smg bout a pair of kids barely born in the 90s, using star wars as their movie shorthand, is fucking killing me. Your parents are barely old enough, and based how they're written, they couldn't have introduced you to that universe either, nor could you find your way there on your own. Don't get me wrong you're cute and all, but I can't stretch my belief in the tastes of the South that far? I know, I'm an asshole.

Taylor Swift is every teen's shorthand, right? That's one thing all the YA I've read recently shares. No one has Spotify in their cars, do they? Cos I have no clue who is singing what anymore since I haven't listened to radio in about a decade...

Books like these always a good read until I get to the southern-American church par of the story...
