Status Updates From If I Was Your Girl

Theme- Amanda’s friend’s parents are super strict on the girls but they don’t care about the boy’s behavior. Throughout the book you can see girls and boys being treated differently.

Question- The pastor made a joke about Methodists that was kind of rude. Isn’t that a little hypocritical for a pastor?

Found a small roach inside of my copy of this book while at the car. I freaked out and gave the book to my dad, who was driving, so he just hit the book so it would be squished. MY BRAND NEW BOOK IS COVERED IN ROACH 😭😭😭😭😭

This book is breaking my heart.

Half way through the audiobook and I can already tell it’s going to be on my Holy Shit that was Amazing shelf.

I love it so far!

Prediction- “Exactly which part did you not understand? And I can’t help that I’m homophobic... I was born that way!” Ok yikes, this was a bumper sticker on Amanda’s friend’s car. I think they will find out she is transgender and then stop being her friends.

Favorite- “Everybody’s got a past,” he said. “That don’t mean you can’t have a future.”

The words I want to express will not relay properly out of my mouth, it’s just too much.

Interesting start!

“ I felt weightless and free. And then came the burning slap as I hit the lake flat on my back.” I like this description because I can relate to it. I flop and smack my back on the water a lot in diving and it sucks.

“Inside, music rattled the floors and kids were packed together tightly, red solo cups in hand. A keg stood by the entrance to the kitchen, a line snaking around the corner.” This is very descriptive and it creates an image in my head.

Favorite “Is that your real name?” They mean this because originally, Amanda went by Andrew. But she felt more comfortable identifying as a girl. This was the first time someone believed her and cared how she felt.

Favorite- “Whatever it is you can’t tell me.” She met my eyes. “It’s gonna be okay.” I like this because she is so understanding even though she doesn’t know what Amanda is going through

holy moly this is so eye-opening, and you can really connect to it even if you’re not in the same situation

“The only thing worse than attractive people is attractive people who refuse to admit they’re attractive.” I think this is a funny quote cause she is complimenting her but in a mean way

I chose this book because it seems interesting to know how a transgender person feels after they transitioned. It is something that I do not know a lot about.

Amanda and her dad don’t make eye contact as they leave the restaurant, they have an awkward relationship. Why did her dad leave her?

“What if he told people he had one child, a son?” From reading the book description I know that this is to make the reader infer that maybe Amanda was a boy earlier but now identifies as a girl.
