I still enjoy Peter Mayle’s word choices and delightful anecdotes but for some reason I m not enjoying this book as much as A Year in Provence and Toujours Provence. Maybe the novelty has worn off.

While food is still a major player on the scene, this book has more stories about the people in Provence and their outlook on life.

Love this book, Peter Mayle's style just draws you into it, its a great way to lose yourself.

I learned about Olive Oil this weekend. Little did I know that I could enjoy learning about Olive Oil. But don't tell Peter or his Provençal friends that we have Italian Olive Oil. "Encore Provence" chapter 'Discovering Oil' by Peter Mayle.

I haven't read a Peter Mayle book for quite awhile. It only took 25 pages into the book to remember what an entertaining writer he is.

I'm re-reading. I go on a French/ Pseudo-French kick in the summer; it's my escape. This book doesn't require much of me: the descriptive narrative just goes on and I go with it.

Another good book by Mayle, but not his best.

This book seems a lot less focused than the first one but I guess that's because it's not following the chronological setup that that one had.

If you travel away from home for pleasure, you're a tourist, no matter how you like to dress it up. I consider myself a permanent tourist. Some of my best friends are tourists. Tourism makes an important contribution to the local economy and provides a living for many talented people - I think one of the things I really love about Mayle is his complete lack of smug pretentiousness.

I'm reading a used book and turning a page last night I found a well-pressed dollar bill, apparently used as a bookmark by a previous owner. What a nice surprise!

There's no doubt about it. Food tastes better on Sunday. - If there is anything I might have rolled my eyes at then but actually really appreciate its the fact that Sunday was an event/obligation for me growing up. Lunch with one side of the family, dinner with the other. Sometimes it was tiresome but all in all I think it was good for me and a good idea.

There is no great importance given to time in the sense of punctuality, there is an enormous relish of the moment.

Returning to a place where you have been happy is generally regarded as a mistake. Memory is a notoriously biased and sentimental editor, selecting what it wants to keep and invariably making few cosmetic hanges to past events. With rose-colored hindsight, the good times become magical; the bad times fade and eventually disappear leaving only a seductive blur of sunlit days and the laughter of friends.

This one is really different than the first to "Provence" books. Once he finished his rant about Reichl, it got good again.
