Because the characters are already in love before the book begins, it's hard to become invested in their relationship. No matter how many times the word "love" appears (which is a lot), it always comes across as TELLING rather than showing. Which makes the paragraphs about love seem like purple prose I rolled my eyes at. That Epilogue was a bit on the nose.
