"Since I'm reading something else (Kelley Armstrong's OTHERWORLD SECRETS, but it's an anthology and I'm skipping over the stories I've already read, so I'm not bothering to officially list it on Goodreads), I'll likely return this to the library without finishing it. It's long (608 pages) and heavy (hardcover), and I just need something fictional right now. Marking the page number here in case I re-borrow it later." Apr 07, 2019 08:00PM

"EVERYTHING, EVERYTHING. I hated the twist when I first heard about it. Reading about the book again now, during a pandemic...I hate it even more. "There's more to life than just surviving" is the kind of attitude that anti-lockdowners, anti-maskers, anti-vaxxers have. Which may be OK for someone like Maddy whose immunodeficiency can't be transmitted...but it's the same attitude killing people with COVID-19." Jan 29, 2021 06:02AM

Michel de Montaigne
“We need very strong ears to hear ourselves judged frankly, and because there are few who can endure frank criticism without being stung by it, those who venture to criticize us perform a remarkable act of friendship, for to undertake to wound or offend a man for his own good is to have a healthy love for him.”
Michel de Montaigne

Linda Hilton
“Buck up, suck up, and admit you fucked up.”
Linda Hilton

Sarah Ockler
“It takes forty muscles to frown, and only twelve to jam a cupcake in your mouth and get over it.”
Sarah Ockler, Bittersweet

Sarah Wendell
“Anything written for an audience of mostly women by a community of mostly women is subversive, reflective of the current sexual, emotional, and political status, and actively embraces and undermines that status simultaneously.”
Sarah Wendell, Beyond Heaving Bosoms: The Smart Bitches' Guide to Romance Novels

Allie Brosh
“No one could tell me not to eat an entire cake—not my mom, not Santa, not God—no one. It was my cake and everyone else could go fuck themselves.”
Allie Brosh, Hyperbole and a Half
