It’s a great and entertaining book. While it is a little graphic and gory, he makes up for it in comedy and description. If your kid is interested in history but is bored by their teacher then this book is for them.

predict that in the novel Guts and Glory a war between slavery will break out as a battle of the north and south. These two different side have different opinions on slavery. On the back of the book it tells us that there are conflicts between the north and south. This tells me that a war could break out

In my book the main character, the United States, changes throughout the book. In the beginning there is peace among the states until the South splits apart and fights the Union. This is when the lowest point in the book takes place. After the war is over the story reaches its highest point with slavery being outlawed. This is how my main character changes over the course of the story.

In this book the point of view is 3rd person objective. This is because the book is non-fiction and the author couldn't get personal stories about what happened. Instead, he had to use what was already written. This means that there are not thoughts, emotions or feelings for any of the characters because the author didn't know what they were.

The protagonist of this story is the Union, however the book does mention perspective and doesn't outright say the Confederates were the antagonist but rather ill-guided to support slavery. The antagonist is still the Confederacy though because they attacked first, supported slavery and wanted the Union dead, the Union wanted peace. Evidence of this is in the beginning where Confederates attacked a Union fort.

The conflict in this book is character versus characters. While they are not literal people, the Union and Confederacy are considered characters. Their conflict is about slavery and racism, but also about winning and proving to be superior to the opposing side of war. This perfectly fits in with character versus character and is why I decided that as the type of conflict for this book.

This book is a non-fiction, historical book about a bunch of short stories that happened in the civil war. It is also an informational book because it teaches you about places, dates, and people. The book is an account of real life events so it has to be non-fiction and is historical because it is about our history. The writing style is in short fast-paces stories and events in the war, from battles to elections.

In Guts and Glory, there are two sides fighting one another. The war was fought between the Northern and southern states. This took place around the late 1800s. There is conflict between the two sides which leads to both Northern and Southerns to ride into each others enemy territory.

This summer, I read the book Guts and Glory The American Civil War by Ben Thompson. In the book throughout the Civil War, there were many battles and conflicts which ended with many casualties. Throughout the Civil War, there were 750,000 deaths 500,00 wounded, and 400,00 captured which left about 1.6 million causalities. After the war, Abram Lincoln passed laws which ended slavery and reunified the north and south.

When he and his men arrive at the courthouse, there is no food and they must head to a nearby depot to stock up on food. On their way though, they are caught in between two union armies. They fight for weeks and eventually negotiate a surrender

The next story details the life of Mary Edwards Walker. She was a nurse for the Fifty-Second Ohio Volunteer Infantry. She tended to soldier’s wounds and was the only nurse to serve as a surgeon as well. Mary was very masculine and society looked down upon her for wearing men’s clothing, but she was awarded the Medal of Honor for her actions in the Battle of Fredericksburg, being the only women to receive one.

The purpose of my book is to inform and entertain people about the American civil war. The author Ben Thompson is trying to make the book funny to keep young-adult readers hooked on the civil war. Readers can enjoy his sarcastic attitude. Young-adult readers would also like the book because of the brutality it shows and the fun side stories included. the author molds in historical information while keeping it funny.

I liked this book. It delved into the reasons for fighting. He also explained how many confaderates didn't truly support slavery, they just supported the south.
