The protagonist of this story is the Union, however the book does mention perspective and doesn't outright say the Confederates were the antagonist but rather ill-guided to support slavery. The antagonist is still the Confederacy though because they attacked first, supported slavery and wanted the Union dead, the Union wanted peace. Evidence of this is in the beginning where Confederates attacked a Union fort.

In my book the main character, the United States, changes throughout the book. In the beginning there is peace among the states until the South splits apart and fights the Union. This is when the lowest point in the book takes place. After the war is over the story reaches its highest point with slavery being outlawed. This is how my main character changes over the course of the story.

In this book the point of view is 3rd person objective. This is because the book is non-fiction and the author couldn't get personal stories about what happened. Instead, he had to use what was already written. This means that there are not thoughts, emotions or feelings for any of the characters because the author didn't know what they were.

The conflict in this book is character versus characters. While they are not literal people, the Union and Confederacy are considered characters. Their conflict is about slavery and racism, but also about winning and proving to be superior to the opposing side of war. This perfectly fits in with character versus character and is why I decided that as the type of conflict for this book.

This book is a non-fiction, historical book about a bunch of short stories that happened in the civil war. It is also an informational book because it teaches you about places, dates, and people. The book is an account of real life events so it has to be non-fiction and is historical because it is about our history. The writing style is in short fast-paces stories and events in the war, from battles to elections.
