Smug! That's the only word to describe the sanctimonious main character, Chris.
And who, even in the early days described News Corps as offering a balanced report! This book is about as balanced.

I don't agree that the poker win was inspirational...after all, he was hardly on the breadline before! #The contrast between Chris and Saby's charity work is striking: hers is outward focused, aiming to help, his is about him feely good about himself. I will look up the biblical reference that keeps buzzing round my head.

This is turning into a party political broadcast on behalf of the Tea Party. The level of detail and list of names of politicians is not all that interesting to non-US folks.
I'm struggling to understand the rave reviews I read.

I'm sure the poker scenes would be facinating if you understood the jargon

Chris is really the most unpleasant person - egotistical and self-promoting. Not content with publicising his own charitable giving, he practically forces his employees and their families to donate to the funds he sets up. They might have their own favourite charities...

I spent most of the hour I had free this morning writing part of my review of this book. During the following service, the word I would use to sum up this book hit me...smug. By definition everything Chris does is correct - even boasting about his charitable giving. Now I have to go read the gospels for the reference I want! So some good will come of it!

I'm quite disappointed...after reading so many positive reviews about DC's books, I find they don't live up to the raised expectations.
Last night I realised that so far, this book has the tone of an obituary-all praise & slightly sychophantic. I can stomach that for an obit, but not a whole novel. Lots of grammar & syntax errors mean lots of rereading to understand. Main character has no flaws; no flow to book :-(

Not much action yet...lots of scene setting and flashbacks. Waiting to see the relevance of the poker tournament!
Some grammar howlers.

I have never recommended a book before, and would never think of doing one while 1/2 into it. This book is amazing. It is so fast-paced, interesting, has kept me in limbo where I can't wait to read the next page. The author, David Carraturo, my thanks to you for your suggestion to read. I truly cannot wait to see how it ends.

As I was able to read a few more pages of this amazing book this morning - Goodreads posted their quote of the day which fits perfectly - that quote is -- A great book should leave you with many experiences, and slightly exhausted at the end. You live several lives while reading ~~ William Styron

When I read the intro to this book I knew it would be interesting. Just didn't realize how much I was going to love it. Anyone interested in the Army, hedge funds, 9-11, gambling, mafia, violence against women, alcoholism, etc., check this book out. I wish I didn't have to put it down until it was done!

So far I wish I had more time to devote to this book right now. It is fast paced and very interesting. I love the main character Chris so far and the different ways the author has portrayed him. Hoping to be able to read more soon!
