This book starts off absolutely fantastically. A boy called Nathan Treeves in the slums of a mystical world. The first 100 pages are magical. Then it seems to run out momentum for the next 200 pages and it felt like I was rushing through the book rather than enjoying it. The book gets back to its best in the last quarter, but is interrupted again by an interlude which is a really tough read, every other word is one that you need to look up to understand its meaning or you just have to have a guess at it! The ending to the book is again brilliant, but I can’t help thinking that this book would have been better being 300 pages rather than 500 plus. I would still recommend this book to any fantasy fan, as I’ve said some of the stuff in here is weird and beautiful, but you do need a bit of patience with it. Will I read the next instalment of the series which is titled Malarkoi ?…yes definitely, but not just yet, need a little break from the cities of the Weft
