Johnny Lee Wilson was born in and eventually attended high school (Ernest Righetti) in Santa Maria, California, after spending much of his early life in California's Central Valley. After attending California Baptist University (then, CBC) on a drama scholarship, he went on to earn two magisterial degrees and one doctoral degree before pastoring several churches and teaching as an adjunct professor.

When he lost his teaching position based on a bogus doctrinal dispute, he entered journalism full-time with Computer Gaming World magazine. Later, he became Group Publisher of Hasbro's/Wizards of the Coast's Amazing Stories, Dragon, Dungeon, Star Wars Gamer, Star Wars Insider and TopDeck magazines.

Brian Michael Bendis is not my favorite comics author. For light-hearted comics, I prefer the style of Mark Waid, and for darker comics, I prefer either Ed Brubaker’s noir comics or Alan Moore (not just Watchmen and Swamp Thing but the scariest Lovec ...more

If one is looking for a YA alternative (or supplement) to the late Terry Pratchett’s Discworld series, Goblins would not be a bad choice. Like Pratchett’s protagonists, Henwyn the Cheesemaker (Does that mean, as with the Pythons, he is “blessed?”) ha ...more

I have definitely read the Spenser novels in asynchronous order. I’ve read them as I’ve bought them and as my brother has given them to me. So, I don’t have a coherent viewpoint on these mysteries and the protagonist as I do Rex Stout’s Nero Wolfe an ...more

I love mysteries, but I don’t read Agatha Christie novels because I read one as a teenager in which the reader had no possibility of solving the mystery. For the same reason, I won’t be reading any novels by Tom Savage anytime soon. Scavenger is one ...more

Bear Hug was a rather fascinating mystery story to me. There is a murder involved, but that is not the mystery. The mystery is what happened to the millions that a con man worthy of Ponzi, Madoff, Keating, and Trump had stolen from a bunch of retiree ...more
