| I enjoy Simak’s literary style, but this book was fairly meh. Essentially, the main character discovers a book in the hands of a dying clone written by him though he never wrote it. Turns out, he WILL write it in the future and it will be highly infl ...more | |

I'm a sucker for frame novels, especially when they're as well-written and focused as this one. It reminds me of Fred Saberhagen's first BERZERKER novels, which I'm a big fan of. The stories all revolve around life in the Tion layers, where upwards of ...more |

| Liked it about as much as Bear’s Eon and Mars—which is to say quite a bit, but Weir, Scalzi, and Heinlein are more my taste. Not too much politics and lots of enigmatic events early on that eventually coalesce. Better ending than Eon, I have to say. ...more | |

| Definite classic. The dialogue can be pretty cheesy, but it is one of the first of its kind. A bit like reading HG Wells and Robert E Howard at the same time. | |

| So crazy it begs to be read. Horror sci fi big time. An AI computer holds a handful of humans hostage underground simply for the thrill of torturing them—after it has already killed off the rest of humanity. The worst part is what he can do to their ...more | |

| A lot of hype on this one, but I guess I just don’t get it. Cool premise!though: Aliens came and left, leaving lots of weird tech behind, like they just stopped at Earth for a “roadside picnic” and left. The main character and inevitable antihero liv ...more | |
