“All we do is sleep, and eat and lay around and make love. We're like slugs. Slug-love, I call it.”
― Charles Bukowski, Women

“when Whitman wrote, “I sing the body electric”
I know what he
meant
I know what he
wanted:

to be completely alive every moment
in spite of the inevitable.

we can’t cheat death but we can make it
work so hard
that when it does take
us

it will have known a victory just as
perfect as
ours”
― Charles Bukowski

“Concentrate every minute like a Roman— like a man— on doing what’s in front of you with precise and genuine seriousness, tenderly, willingly, with justice. And on freeing yourself from all other distractions. Yes, you can— if you do everything as if it were the last thing you were doing in your life, and stop being aimless, stop letting your emotions override what your mind tells you, stop being hypocritical, self-centered , irritable. You see how few things you have to do to live a satisfying and reverent life? If you can manage this, that’s all even the gods can ask of you.”
― Marcus Aurelius, Meditations

“people need me. I fill
them. if they can't see me
for awhile the get desperate, they get
sick.

but if I see them too often
I get sick. it's hard to feed
without getting fed.”
― Charles Bukowski, Love Is a Dog from Hell
