Rose of the West is stated to take place in 1892, during the fourth year of the Civil War. What happened to delay the start of the war by twenty-seven years? I was hoping all the way through that you would somehow work that detail into the story....

Without disease …moreThe premise for my world is that when the Europeans landed in the new world, they met natives who were resistant to European disease. Without disease to decimate them, the settlers met twenty million Indians instead of one. This slowed their progress across the continent. The reckoning of the Civil War was delayed by the war with Mexico. It was mentioned in Deke's flashback to his childhood. Since the details of the world are the same for at least the next six books, I thought to lay the cards on the table slowly. I have confess, the next two books don't deal with U.S. history. Just it's effects on the rest of the world. But book five, "Kip," will go into it quite deeply.(less)
