Ryan Morgan Miller is a musician, podcaster, and author of the new novel, The Vain Curse—a book that will almost certainly not be up for any awards, prizes, or nominations of any kind. He has no qualifications for writing a comedy book about hardboiled detectives, except for the ability to ply himself with an inordinate amount of scotch. He can be found in the vulgar cesspool known as New Jersey with his wife Meg, his son Wyatt, and his best friend Tiberius.

“This search was coming up empty, and I felt ashamed both as a man and as a detective. I pulled my flask out of my jacket pocket and tried taking a sip. Only a drop of whiskey hit my tongue. I needed to stop at the liquor store for a refill. I was low in spirits.”
Ryan Morgan Miller, The Vain Curse: A Hardboiled Comedy Novel

“The sun rose slowly, as if it wasn't sure it was worth all the effort.”
Terry Pratchett, The Light Fantastic

“He was determined to discover the underlying logic behind the universe.
Which was going to be hard, because there wasn't one.”
Terry Pratchett, Mort

“Tʜᴇʀᴇ's ɴᴏ ᴊᴜsᴛɪᴄᴇ, ᴛʜᴇʀᴇ's ᴊᴜsᴛ ᴍᴇ.

Terry Pratchett, Mort

“It's vital to remember who you really are. It's very important. It isn't a good idea to rely on other people or things to do it for you, you see. They always get it wrong.”
Terry Pratchett, Sourcery

“I don’t know what to do,” he said. “No harm in that. I’ve never known what to do,” said Rincewind with hollow cheerfulness. “Been completely at a loss my whole life.” He hesitated. “I think it’s called being human, or something.”
