Satisfying Sedaris

I gave it four stars in comparison to other Sedaris collections, which is perhaps unfair. Much of the material is engaging, and the humor, while maybe less broad, is ever present, keeping things moving. There’s a handful of weak ex

Clever and compelling premise that drives the plot. Would have given it five stars had the last third of the book been as clever as the first two thirds.

This is a five star book in terms of writing skill but I'm rating it four stars because I wasn't that enamored of the content. Yes, it is well constructed, employs many well regarded literary devices, does a decent to admirable job with the character ...more
Red Team Blues by Cory Doctorow
"This is a generic cryptocurrency-themed detective story/technothriller that resembles Neal Stephenson’s Cryptonomicon on a very tight budget. My knowledge of Cory Doctorow is basically limited to his uninspiring Twitter presence, but to my misfortune" Read more of this review »
Red Team Blues by Cory Doctorow
"I wanted to read Cory Doctorow because I had an understanding he was some sort of an anarcho-punk. I enjoy his twitter threads and he seems politically aligned with me. That being said, I don't know what the fuck this was. I know this is about my exp" Read more of this review »

Red Team Blues by Cory Doctorow
"I’m a longtime fan of Doctorow’s work, and I have a lot of respect for his politics. But wow, ok, this book was not for me. I guess he’s trying to reach a particular kind of straight white male reader who loves the trappings of tech wealth (the kind " Read more of this review »

Meh. Everyone in Martin Hench's world is super smart, super rich, super beautiful, etc.
Lots of jargon thrown around but little actual nuts and bolts. Plot is wafer thin and stretched out to fill a relatively short book. Denouement is lazy and the wr
