I'm plowing through a very detailed outline/rough first draft of my "Children of the Knight" sequel, tentatively subtitled "Running Through a Dark Place." It's already 224 single spaced pages and nearly 113,000 words, and I still have a ways to go before reaching the conclusion. A lot was set up in the first book that needs to be followed up on and much more happens as a result of new characters who were not present in part one. It really delves into how society sees its youth and explores the current adult response to kids who screw up badly or commit crimes. In the old days, adults recognized that children were different, that they made mistakes and bad choices, often REALLY bad ones. But back in the day adults gave kids a second chance, or a third chance. Kids were worked with to try and fix whatever led them astray. Today, in our disposable society, kids who screw up are thrown away like yesterday's trash. We don't rehabilitate, and we don't give them second chances anymore. It's both sad and disturbing. Writing these books is a challenge because of all the issues delved into, as well as all the character and plot threads, but it's fun, too. Hopefully those who read the first one, due out around June, will be interested in the sequel. At its core, of course, as with virtually all stories, it's a love story.
My latest novel, "Children of the Knight," has been selected for publication by Harmony Ink Press, due out in paperback and ebook format around June. I'm excited it's finally going to be available and I'm already hard at work on the sequel. :)
I'm heading this week to the Miami Book Fair International to accept a Reader's Favorite Silver Medal for "A Matter of Time" and to promote the book. I will also be pitching my new novel, "Children of the Knight" to any publishers willing to listen. Ha! Wish me luck. Or not. I'm going anyway. LOL
