Because she was (and most likely still is) a high quality woman, I took the recommendation seriously, and very much desired to one day read this epic. However, I really wouldn't have picked it up in my 20s if it hadn't been for my older sister insisting I read it. (Thank you!)

This was a rollercoaster ride I tell you what. From young love to prison tunnels, the highest classes in Paris and Italy to the deprivation of murder and intrigue, I was hooked. Every chance I got I was listening, staying up much too late to listen, especially as the story climaxed and finally, dramatically, ended. At the introduction of each new character it was a guessing game of how they fit into the Count's epic revenge plot. And boy-o-boy was it epic! Not only was it a mastermind plan to revenge himself on the men who threw him, innocent, into prison, but to revenge them in such a way that they would suffer, as he suffered-long and alone.
Somewhere in the 70% mark I started to dislike the Count of Monte Cristo, and his stone cold heart serving his stone cold revenge. Thankfully there were many likeable and upstanding characters, along side, of course, the scoundrels whom he was revenging himself on. The most interesting thing about the story line was that the crime which he was revenging was actually the least offensive compared with the crimes he drudged up to hold against these immoral men.
Delving into their lives and all the ways they crossed paths was thrilling, and brilliant to say the least.
I lived a thousand lives within these thousand pages, and enjoyed every minute of it! I am grateful for the audio book which allowed me to get through this in under 2 months, something that would not have happened with the hardcopy.
