Mari-with-an-I prefers her fantasies drenched in oil and fried up in faerie, but when that's not the case, she'll read it anyway. She likes writing what she reads, and likes baking while she writes. She's written a few things for anthologies, including an anthology that got translated into Czech (I know, right?! Eeeeee!), and if you haven't read them yet, she urges you to do so! Who knows, there might be a few cookies waiting for you at the end of the read.

...Or not. (Blast her pet steampoctopus for eating them all!)

I only really grazed a fraction of my world during "Chasing Volcanoes," so I'm not sure how much of the setting you'd be interested in using or alluding to. It would be great if my short story could get a shoutout in any case, so sure. Good luck on the writing!

Mini Reviews: The Stolen Heir, The Prisoner’s Throne

I had initially planned this to be a full review, but unfortunately, Holly Black has once again turned me into a pile of incoherent goo and a full review would probably include a lot of profane commentary (which I will include anyway, because why not). So instead, I combined both books into mini reviews with […]

If this was my first Chloe Gong book I probably would have cut this a bit more slack and loved it. But I kept comparing the characters to milder versions of her Secret Shanghai series (like pls. Lia is the Rosalind and Eirale is the

“There are, it has been said, two types of people in the world. There are those who, when presented with a glass that is exactly half full, say: this glass is half full. And then there are those who say: this glass is half empty.
The world belongs, however, to those who can look at the glass and say: What's up with this glass? Excuse me? Excuse me? This is my glass? I don't think so. My glass was full! And it was a bigger glass! Who's been pinching my beer?
And at the other end of the bar the world is full of the other type of person, who has a broken glass, or a glass that has been carelessly knocked over (usually by one of the people calling for a larger glass) or who had no glass at all, because he was at the back of the crowd and had failed to catch the barman's eye. ”

“What was that?" Belgarath asked, coming back around the corner.
"Brill," Silk replied blandly, pulling his Murgo robe back on.
"Again?" Belgarath demanded with exasperation. "What was he doing this time?"
"Trying to fly, last time I saw him." Silk smirked.
The old man looked puzzled.
"He wasn't doing it very well," Silk added.
Belgarath shrugged. "Maybe it'll come to him in time."
"He doesn't really have all that much time." Silk glanced out over the edge.
"From far below - terribly far below - there came a faint, muffled crash; then, after several seconds, another. "Does bouncing count?" Silk asked.
Belgarath made a wry face. "Not really."
"Then I'd say he didn't learn in time." Silk said blithely.”
