I grew up in the karst topography of western Virginia where my fascination for geology and caves flourished. My interest in the subject was fueled by a year of geology study in college.

It was during the mid-1990s when I worked in adult literacy at a regional library that I began to write the story of a young geologist who would become Madison Terrence. Working in sea of books was a powerful catalyst for my writing.

I have three children and nine grandchildren. I enjoy running and mountain biking. I still live and write in the Blue Ridge and keep a day job in public safety. When not in Virginia, my husband and I travel extensively exploring the United States and going on safari in Africa.

Caving Discouraged During COVID-19 Pandemic

Interesting . . . COVID-19 and caving

Caving in Virginia is being discouraged for two reasons. First, the conditions in a cave offer poor ventilation and overall space can make social distancing difficult for people. Second, there is some concern that people can pass the virus to bats and perhaps the cycle could begin anew.

Read about it here: Message from the Virginia Cave Board
