Sometimes I feel like I don't have anything to write about, so I write nonsense until I like something and then work off of that.

Once the pen touches the paper... magic happens. Eventually...

Sometimes I think of something absolutely outlandish and keep asking myself questions about that strange idea to make it more solid and work off of those questions.

Off the top of my head -- an example, "elephant wearing a top hat" --

Questions I would ask myself: why? where were they going? to do what? where were they coming from? who did they meet along the way? how were they traveling? what did people think when they saw the elephant? what was their personality like?

--- basically anything to feed your creativity so your brain starts thinking again. This also helps with character development and multiple storylines or backstories.

Get yourself in the mindset of a curious child to explore your story. (Maybe imagine the little girl, Mindy, from Animaniacs who keeps asking, "why?", probing you about your story.)

Another idea is people watching (not in a creepy way). Look at the people around you. See what they're doing. How would you describe it?

Something I always used to do growing up was watching people on the train and making up stories about them. Who I thought they were, what I thought they did --I wrote poems based on my thoughts.

Another really great idea is children - listening to children.

A word or a phrase that comes out of a child's mouth can inspire so many stories. Their commentary about the world around them -- fascinating.

I love listening to children's viewpoints about the world.

People don't listen to children enough. (less)

It's the simplest advice but also the hardest for people to follow.

People let fear keep them from starting.

Fear of failure. Fear of, "What if I'm not good enough?". Fear of negative reactions. Just fear in general.

Even if you fail, so what? You tried. And the beauty of trying is that you can always try again.

You can improve. You can learn. You can practice. You can keep trying.

Every failure and rejection makes the next one less scary and makes you braver.

You can become fearless and release your true power.

Channel it.

Fuel your writing.

You can be great.

You just need to believe it first. (less)
