I imagine like many in the goodreads community, I've been pretty much a lifelong booklover. The closest I ever got to paradise on earth was spending several years working as a book reviewer and editor for publishers and magazines - and having as many free books as I could manage. Bliss.

I love writing, but seem to spend more time thinking about it rather than sitting down and doing it. If I wrote, say, as often as Donald Trump insulted people, well god - I'd have more fiction published than Joyce Carol Oates, and Stephen King combined. Ahem.

My self-published short stories include:

Jane Austen: A Very Short Introduction by Tom Keymer — Outstanding

The OUP’s Very Short Introduction series is excellent, with hundreds of clever, brief and pellucid studies on a stellar range of subjects and persons. This is a more than worthy addition to the collection, and a truly outstanding literary appreciation of Jane Austen’s oeuvre, her themes, principal characters, virtuoso style, techn

Vladimir Nabokov
“In a sense, we are all crashing to our death from the top story of our birth ... and wondering with an immortal Alice at the patterns of the passing wall. This capacity to wonder at trifles - no matter the imminent peril - these asides of the spirit ... are the highest form of consciousness.”

“The mass media serve as a system for communicating messages and symbols to the general populace. It is their function to amuse, entertain, and inform, and to inculcate individuals with the values, beliefs, and codes of behavior that will integrate them into the institutional structures of the larger society. In a world of concentrated wealth and major conflicts of class interest, to fulfil this role requires systematic propaganda.”

“All over the place, from the popular culture to the propaganda system, there is constant pressure to make people feel that they are helpless, that the only role they can have is to ratify decisions and to consume.”

“As all advocates of feminist politics know most people do not understand sexism or if they do they think it is not a problem. Masses of people think that feminism is always and only about women seeking to be equal to men. And a huge majority of these folks think feminism is anti-male. Their misunderstanding of feminist politics reflects the reality that most folks learn about feminism from patriarchal mass media.”
