C.A. Gray is the author of three YA Amazon bestselling trilogies: PIERCING THE VEIL (magic and quantum physics meet Arthurian legends), THE LIBERTY BOX (dystopian metaphysics and mind control technology), and UNCANNY VALLEY (dystopian coming-of-age with neuroscience and super intelligent A.I). She starts with some scientific concept that she’s interested in learning more about herself, and then creates lots of epic chaos and high-stakes action to go along with it. Her stories are free of gratuitous violence, language, and sexual content, and she abhors depressing endings… but they’re not all kittens and rainbows either! She also listens to and reviews audiobooks on her website, here on Goodreads, on Instagram, and on her podcast, Clean Audi ...more

Anyone Can Play Music, Josh Turknett

I played piano all growing up. I got really good, too–but all I could ever do was read music. I’d always wanted to learn to improvise, but that wasn’t the way that any of my teachers taught me. Eventually I stopped playing (just got busy with life), but every few years I always pick up a book or try to create a curriculum for myself to learn improvisation, and the musical theory foundations th

I think this one just wasn't my genre. There was nothing wrong with it. The narrative voice was good, the pacing was good. Somehow it just didn't grip me, and I had other books I preferred to listen to instead. ...more

I liked the choppy narrative voice-- it was unique. But the main character is lazy to the point that he literally likes to sit and do nothing. This does not make for a fast-moving narrative. Maybe I am just really impatient.

“In that case, although your idea about connecting mirror neurons and the limbic system would be nice, so we’d at least have empathic superbots… what we’d really need to do is figure out how to restrict free will. That way they can’t override their programming if they don’t happen to like it.”  I gave a short”
C.A. Gray, Uncanny Valley

“You don't know what it's been like all these years, seeing things that are invisible to everybody else. I knew I wasn't crazy, I knew it, but the rest of the world thought I was, and after a while even I started to wonder, you know?”

“Yet people see only what they expect to see, and will search for evidence to support what they already believe. It is a rare person indeed who is humble enough to admit that he has been wrong.”

“Kane pulled a key from a piece of thread around his neck that looked just like the skeleton key Gerald had given Peter the night before, and slid it into the keyhole. "Welcome," said Kane dramatically, as he pushed the doors open, "to the complete and secret history of the Watchers.”

“My name is Kane," he said finally, "and I am the youngest member ever to be inducted into the secret organization known as the Watchers. This," he gestured to the hall around them, "is what we call the Commuter Station. It is the second basement of the Watcher Castle." "Watchers?" said Lily. "What are you watching for?" Kane's mouth stretched into a bitter, tight-lipped smile and his eyes narrowed in Peter's direction. "Him.”
