Every volume of this series is fantastic, though I don't always know what to say about them. I learn SO MUCH in each volume and the series is responsible for me seeking out food & drink I've read about and broadening my horizons as a result. High ...more

I am thoroughly enjoying Eaton's "The Truth About" series: first hippos, then dolphins, now bears. He combines facts and silly humor in a way that makes the facts easily accessible to children. Keep it up!

My favorite part is where Leonard stands up for himself, but he does so gently and firmly, without condemnation. It is so very hard to stand up for yourself in that way, though, and sometimes the other lions won't let you be yourself and will tell yo ...more

“Bums playing strip poker with a robot. Unsettling. Thanks for showing me.”
Matthew Loux, The Time Museum

Alexander Chee
“Hate is love on fire, set out to burn like a flare on the side of the road. It says, stop here. Something terrible has happened. Envy is like, the skin you're in burns. And the salve is someone else's skin.”
Alexander Chee, Edinburgh

“If the world can turn into this, if we can turn around and find entire schools full of children gone, towns emptied overnight and no one saw a thing...
Then tomorrow we may also wake up and find the rain has ceased to fall and the wine has all gone sour and we do not recognize our own faces.
If today is possible, then anything is possible and nothing matters.”
Kathryn Immonen, Moving Pictures

“Sometimes I feel foolish for hoping she's alive. But then I feel guilty--as if being 'realistic' is giving up.
Other times, I think the uncertainty is the worst part. Alive or dead, I just need to know...
Or maybe that's just a bullshit rationalization. Because I know the day you come here to tell me that she's dead will be the worst day of my life.”
Jeff Jensen, Green River Killer: A True Detective Story

Rene Denfeld
“She is afraid, and yet she wants the priest to see inside her and accept the monsters that wrap around the secret, pure part of her--the part she managed to save, miraculously, that so many of us have lost. she knows the monsters are there and yet wants to be seen.”
Rene Denfeld, The Enchanted
