Carl picks a new type of race, a Primal, which keeps him in his original form but gives him extra perks. So, he's human, just an extra powered one, and has better stats.

They reach the Over City, which so far is my favorite location in universe. It reminded me a bit of Skyrim in the sense you'd travel to specific cities to sell stuff in your inventory or buy from specialty merchants. New crafting abilities, skill leveling, new bosses (one whole area centered on clowns and circus stuff? Which is freaky in itself??)- MENTION OF SLENDERMAN????

The one thing I did not like about this book was the mentions of assault and violence against sex workers. I know that, as other reviewers have said, the AI is basing quests and events off of actual real-world problems and situations, taking the worst of the worst to mimic the evils of mankind, but I think it was interesting that not only were the sex workers women, but they were minority women (Filipino/Asian). I mean, it did revitalize my love for Carl as he has shown time and time again that despite the circumstances, he will always stand up and defend the underdog- but I felt it was an unnecessary plot point. It could have been the orc's family that she was trying to defend, not the sex workers of the over city. And the fact their deaths were described pretty gruesomely-

I'm sorry, some people might find the quests just filler- I really enjoy them. I like how it's giving Carl more humanity as he clearly wants to help people despite them being NPCs or generated only for the game. He sees reason to help everyone, which is a likable quality. I hate to say it though, Donut is starting to get on my nerves. She's starting to develop a bit of likability by becoming more kind to Carl vs constantly barraging him and being spoiled- but she's still too sassy for my liking. She needs to be fleshed out more.

I'll still move on to the next book, though! It's a very enjoyable series. ...more "
