so… this is the only fantasy book EVER written for me. i genuinely have no words. i can’t believe i put off reading this for so long, this novel was truly beautiful. 🥹💙 where do i even start ੈ✩‧₊˚ 6 stars.

so… this is the only fantasy book EVER written for me. i genuinely have no words. i can’t believe i put off reading this for so long, this novel was truly beautiful. 🥹💙 where do i even start? in my eyes, this is a genuinely perfect book. this book was hozier’s cover of “do i wanna know” (if that isn’t enough reason for you to read this, i don’t know what is). it gave me the same magical feeling that i had reading fantasy as a kid. i can’t even categorize this read because it blends (somewhat) historical fiction, fantasy, and romance together so beautifully. the writing is so lyrical and poetic and unlike anything i’ve ever read before, rebecca ross just KNOWS how to spin words in a way that speaks to my soul. i can’t get over it. i found this world so fascinating and unique, how magic and the gods have become one with real life. it had an old-timey feel and it just transported me right into the story. the way the setting was written made me feel as if i was seeing everything with my own eyes. however, what really made this book for me was the ROMANCE between the two main characters. the yearning. the tension. the desire. the way it was ACTUALLY enemies-to-lovers. the nicknames. THE LETTERS. iris and roman are my new favorite couple, i don’t think i’ll EVER get over them. 🥲 bring back men who yearn. i loved both of them individually but even more together. 🤎 AND CAN WE TALK ABOUT THE WEDDING SCENE? kid you not, i was SOBBING. 😭🥹 it was too beautiful and heart-wrenching for me to take. i loved marisol and attie too, reading about their time with iris and roman at the B&B was so magical! the war between dacre and enva was so interesting to read about, what with the eithrals and hounds i found it so fascinating! it was also neat seeing roman and iris work as war correspondents, their writing was so beautiful! HOWEVER, the ending WRECKED me. forest taking iris away? roman literally CRAWLING to iris? finding out forest had been fighting FOR DACRE? ROMAN BEING TAKEN BY DACRE? i am not well and will be picking up ruthless vows immediately. all in all, this was the most beautiful book and it’s definitely in my top 5 favorites of all time! if you haven’t yet, PLEASE go read this book. 💙 ...more "
