Ageing hippy? Baby boomer. In France, a soixante-huitard? Born in the outskirts of north-west London, I was a trainspotter - steam trains only - before the hormones kicked in. Failing the eleven plus gave me a lifelong antipathy to selection in education. Just in time for the student revolts of the late 1960s, I found my way to the University of Essex.

In the mid 1970s, I left London for Hebden Bridge. For the past 30 years, I’ve earned a living constructing websites and publishing a few books. The website which continues to keep me busy is the HebWeb which serves the Hebden Bridge community and recently celebrated its first 30 years.
