Rick is the author of the short story collections "DARK GLASSES and Other Tales" and "THE CABIN IN THE WOODS and Other Tales", as well as the novels "The River","Iris", and "Murder in the Valley".

He is currently working on a new Crime novel set in Nashville.

Rick is also an accomplished songwriter; his CD, "Matters of the Heart", was released in 2006. He is considering releasing a 4-song "unplugged" EP later this year.

When he's not writing, Rick enjoys sports, reading, and all things Disney World-related. He also has a strange affinity for watching satellites. ...more

When I read a book, it's as if there's …moreI've struggled with writer's block on occasion and it's not a lot of fun. I happen to be a very visual person. When I read a book, it's as if there's a movie playing in my head (which is probably why I usually don't enjoy the movie versions of my favorite books). When I write, it's the same way; I'm able to 'see' the action unfold. So, when I'm stuck, I turn on the movie and picture the action up to that point. Often, I'm able to move right past the point where I was stuck by visualizing what's happening.(less)

It's very easy to let L…moreMy advice for aspiring writers is.....wait for it: WRITE!!! The only way to go from 'aspiring writer' to 'writer' is to do it. It's very easy to let Life get in the way of writing; you have a job, and kids, and a spouse, and bills to pay, and grocery shopping, and.....you get where I'm going. You HAVE TO (not TRY to) make time to write. Every day. Even on the days when you don't feel like it, or you don't think you have anything to write about. Just write. Don't let anything keep you from writing, even if it's only for a half hour a day. If you're stuck on your version of 'The Great American Novel', write a short story, or a poem, or a journal entry. The best advice I have for aspiring writers really is that simple. WRITE!(less)
